Observation Deck FAQ

Common Questions

What is an observation deck, and what is it for?

Solaris Regional Library boasts an outdoor cliffside deck with breathtaking views. It is meant for activities such as birdwatching, landscape photography, and stargazing.

Everyone is free to use the observation deck, including tourists!

However, users that don’t have a Solaris Regional Library card will not be able to check out telescopes and other Library of Things equipment for use outside the library.

Are children allowed on the observation deck by themselves?

Unfortunately, no.

The deck is not a secure place for minors to remain unattended.

Please instruct your child or teen that the observation deck is not a place to play, and keep them close at all times.

Anything you might normally do at a nature preserve or public park! Take pictures, schedule a wedding or birthday party, or just enjoy the view!

Some things that are NOT allowed:

Roughhousing, fighting, littering, or loitering with the intent of harassing another patron.

How can I be sure that I am safe on the observation deck?

We have security detail at the entrances and exits to the observation deck, which requires registration and photo identification (such as a driver’s license or passport) for each individual over 18 years of age in order to use this service.

Minors are not required to have a photo ID in order to register, but must remain with an adult at all times.

Users of the observation deck must sign a waiver stating that they have read and understand the Solaris Regional Library Observation Deck Code of Conduct, which is required to be read and signed before use of the observation deck is permitted.

Failure to read and sign this agreement is subject to instant withdrawal or denial of observation deck privileges.
