Town of Solaris History
A Brief History of the Town of Solaris
The Town of Solaris was founded in 1872 when covered wagons moved west along the frontier. Settlers who were looking for food and clean water were enchanted by the fiery red sunsets that would entertain and delight every evening, such that they decided to form a township called Solaris.
Gene Field II and a few of his friends and relatives from New York to start a new life in 1869, and were largely responsible for the development of the city, citing that the cities of Manhattan and surrounding areas were too crowded and unappealing to be tolerated anymore.
It took several years of setbacks and financial hardships to finally make the move out West. Months of travel and weariness had set in, and the travelers became worried that they would run out of food and water. When they discovered a stream filled with birdsong and wildlife, they knew they were home.
Many farms were built around the surrounding land, and more people came to see the town and experience the beauty of Solaris. Soon a town hall was erected, and slowly, the town became the beautiful place we know of today, home to the Solaris Regional Library.
